Roy Murray

It is with great sadness that we announce the death this week of Roy Murray at the age of 90. Roy was on watch in SS Nishmaha on 27th November 1941, when he caught sight of the survivors of HMS Dunedin. The day was coming to an end when Roy peered through the fading light to see the group of Carley rafts. Through his action, sixty-seven men lived.

In the summer of 2005, he and his family came to England to meet the remaining survivors for the first time since Nishmaha put them ashore in Trinidad on 7th December 1941. It was a truly wonderful occasion and one that all those who were present will never forget.

We remember Roy with great affection and gratitude and extend our warmest wishes to his family.
