(My husband’s great uncle) Leonard though surviving the sinking of the Royal Oak unfortunately went down 11 months later on HMS Dunedin and was lost at the tender age of 21. He was haunted by memories of the sinking of Royal Oak and helping to recover his dead comrades. My husband is a Chief petty officer in the Royal Navy now and has visited Scapa flow and attended a memorial service there. We must never forget these brave men and their families.
