Biographical Notes
Son of Gilbert and Emily Hudson, of Headington, Oxfordshire.
Little is known of Alfred Hudson. No members of his family have come forward with information, but one of the survivors, Harry Cross, mentioned him to me (Stuart Gill) during my research. Cross referred to a “Soapy” Hudson, who was on the same raft after Dunedin went down, but who did not survive. According to Cross, Soapy Hudson swam away from the raft and did not return. There is no other Hudson listed on the ship’s company at the time Dunedin was sunk, so it is likely that “Soapy” Hudson was Able Seaman Alfred Hudson.
