Alfred Charles Fender, Stoker Petty Officer, P/KX 77285, was born in Cardiff, on October 3rd, 1907. He was the son of Alfred George Fender, who had served in the Royal Navy from 1892 to 1903, and his wife Elizabeth, née Huntley. In 1936, Alfred married Clarice May Holmes, with whom he had two children.
Before enlisting as a stoker in 1926, Alfred had been working in a butcher’s shop. He joined HMS Dunedin on December 3rd 1938 and was appointed Stoker Petty Officer in 1940. He held the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
