Biographical Notes
George William Francis, Chief Petty Officer, P/J 26798, was born in Fulham, London on May 18th,1898. There are no details of his next of kin in the Commonwealth War Graves Archives.
William joined the Royal Navy in 1913, serving until 1938. He appears to have re-enlisted in 1939. He joined HMS Dunedin on April 1st, 1941. He was one of five men to die on board SS Nishmaha, the ship which rescued the survivors, on the night of November 27-28th, 1941. He held the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
