Thomas Frederick Greenley, (P/J 111511) was born in Whitley Bay, Northumberland on April 4th, 1908. He was the only child of Frederick Greenley, who died before his son’s birth, and his wife Mary Jane, née Patterson, who died in 1913. Thomas married Mary Wilson McCormick in 1931. They had two children.
Before enlisting, he was employed as a Post Office Messenger. He began his training at HMS Ganges on September 6th, 1924 and joined his last ship, HMS Dunedin on August 11th, 1939. He held the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
