Basil Dore Howell, Able Seaman (P/JX 161362), was born in Newhaven, Sussex on April 20th 1923, the son of George Stafford Howell, a bill broker in 1921, and his partner Mary Rose Dore, who was a Hotel Manageress in Basingstoke in 1939.
