Ordinary Seaman Leonard Allen was born into a large family on July 20th 1923 in Farnborough, Hampshire, the son of Albert, a farm labourer, and Elizabeth Allen (nee Vidler). By 1939, both his parents were dead, and Leonard was living in Liverpool, seemingly working in a Rope and Twine store.
Leonard was the subject of a brief death notice in the Aldershot News of June 5th 1942, which ends “Ever in our thoughts. From his sorrowing Brothers and Sisters.”
One of his brothers was killed in Germany in 1945.
