Leading Signalman George Ardley was born on November 26th 1898 in Halstead, Essex, the eldest child of Alfred and Kate Ardley (nee Hearn). He joined the Royal Navy on his eighteenth birthday in 1916. He married Bessie Tyrrell on April 6th 1929, while he was serving on HMS Tiger. He joined HMS Dunedin on August 22nd 1939.
