Arthur Doney, Coder (P/JX 251551), was born in Burnley on February 10th 1915. He was the son of Alfred Doney, a grocer’s warehouseman, and his wife Elizabeth Ann Doney, née Williams. Before he enlisted, Arthur was working as a confidential clerk in Burnley. In late 1939, he married Elsie Blacklidge, with whom he had a son, born the following year.
