Alfred John Leopold Evans, Stoker 1st Class, P/KX 98397, was born in Reading, Berkshire, on October 2nd, 1894. He was the eldest son of William Evans, a labourer, and his wife Kate Louisa, née Bridgeman. He served in the Royal Navy from 1913 to 1925, when he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve. He married Lillian Irene Wells in 1927.
