Roland Charles George, Petty Officer Steward (P/L 5410) was born in Monmouth on April 8th 1895, the son of William Peter George, a game keeper, and his wife Leah, née Matthews. His occupation prior to joining the Navy is given as “footman”. He served in the Royal Navy until 1938, and was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. He re-entered in August 1938 and joined HMS Dunedin on October 8th, 1940.
