John Richard Harris, Ordinary Seaman (P/JX 171846), was born in Littlehampton, Sussex on July 1st 1923, the son of Robert Harris, a chauffeur, and Florence Harris, née Pink. At the outbreak of World War II, he was working as a railway signalman.
