According to an interview with Able Seaman Ronald Shinn (who survived the sinking) conducted at the Royal Naval barracks on 24th December 1941, Alfred Hill lost his life on one of the rafts. His date of death is given as November 26th 1941, the day before the rescue ship arrived.
