Please donate as much or as little as you would like to the funds of the Dunedin Society.…using the “Donate” link near the bottom of the Home Page….to help us preserve this precious memorial to the men of HMS Dunedin. We are aiming to raise £2,500.

The permanent memorial to HMS Dunedin at the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) is twenty-three years old and in need of repair and refurbishment. This includes repairing the weather-worn brickwork and renovation of the three plaques showing the list of casualties, the Dunedin story, and the list of survivors. The plaque containing the list of casualties recently fell off the memorial, so we want the work to be done as soon as possible.

Have a look at the then-and-now photos below to see how much the memorial has deteriorated.

We have reached an agreement with the NMA to undertake this work over the next few weeks.  This work is now underway, but it will wipe out the funds in the Dunedin account, which is why we need your immediate help.

Once this repair and refurbishment work is done, we will need an additional permanent reserve of funds to do routine maintenance as and when the need arises, so we are looking for donations to cover these costs too. Our initial target is £1500 to cover the immediate costs, plus a further £1,000 to start the permanent maintenance reserve, ie a total of £2,500.

The NMA offered us an In Perpetuity Agreement under which they would take full responsibility for the upkeep of our memorial. While this sounds the perfect solution, it would involve a one-off payment of around £7,000 which we judge would be beyond the means of the Dunedin Society.

If you would like to help us preserve the memorial, please use the link below to donate an amount of your choosing.
